Praying from the perspective of Heaven

“So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will."

For many of us, the world as we know it is being shaken and we’re seeking God with more urgency and purpose than ever before. 

Praying from a position of authority and knowledge is crucial at this time so let’s look again at the foundational truths that empower our prayer lives.

Last Sunday was Trinity Sunday so there’s no better time to look at the work of the three persons of the Trinity in the dynamics of prayer.

True prayer starts in the heart of the Father. It’s vital to get hold of this truth because it can totally change the way we approach prayer. Instead of coming as we often do, with a list of what we think we should be praying for, we allow God to touch our hearts with the things he wants us to pray for. It all comes from him and so our prayers, when we offer them back to him are already coming from a heavenly perspective. God is the creator of all things. He speaks everything into life. His word is life and when he speaks, he begins a process that is irrevocable. Isa 55:11

Jesus, the second person of the Godhead is the greatest intercessor of all time and he is seated at the right hand of God interceding for us. Ro 8:34

He is in the presence of God the Father and he is our connection. We are made righteous in Christ Jesus and he has made a way for us to come into the Father’s presence. This is the purpose of his death and resurrection…to bring us back into relationship with the God who created us.

The third person of the Trinity is the Holy Spirit. It’s almost impossible to imagine entering into true intercession without the Holy Spirit. He is our counsellor, our helper, our inspiration. He makes known to us what is on the Father’s heart. It doesn’t matter how weak we feel or how imperfect our words seem to us, he will take them and make them known to the Father. Ro 8:26-27

So we see this amazing partnership at work. The three persons of the Holy Trinity in perfect union and communion and the extraordinary truth is, we’re invited to join in.

All prayer starts in the Father’s heart and it flows out through Jesus who is at the right hand of the Father, always interceding for us and presenting us before him. We are temples of the Holy Spirit. He dwells in us. When we feel his prompting to pray, God the Father and God the Son are already at work and we’re just joining in. The Holy Spirit empowers our prayers as we offer them back to the Father through him and in the name of Jesus.

It’s a beautiful, complete and eternal circle of prayer. A neverending powerhouse of prayer and worship in the heavenly realm…and we’re invited to join in. 

It’s a privilege. It’s powerful. It’s perfect.
