Feed on the word

As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Isaiah 55:10-11

So also is my Word. I sent it out, and it always produces fruit. It shall accomplish all I want it to and prosper everywhere i send it.

Isaiah 55:11 (TLB translation).

I’m finding at the moment that well known and often quoted scriptures are impacting me afresh.

Chapter 55 of Isaiah is entitled “Invitation to the Thirsty”. It really is worth reading the whole chapter as it reminds us of what a powerful and compassionate God we have.

In particular, the verses above are crucially relevant to us now, when our circumstances can feel so overwhelming, we hardly know how to pray.

God says that his word, the word that goes out from his mouth, cannot return to him without fruit. It’s a promise from God that if we pray his word…ie. scripture..back to him and proclaim it in prayer and worship, it will bear fruit.

God’s word has creative power. It’s alive and active and when we pray it out into the spiritual realm, his promise is that it will accomplish the purpose for which he sent it.. it will bear fruit. That’s quite a promise and quite an amazing weapon at our disposal if we choose to wield it by stepping into the authority we have.

Will we speak God’s word into life?

Father, you promise that your word will not return to you without bearing fruit. Today, I want to speak out your word over this community and this nation.

Lord, you say in your word that no weapon formed against us will prevail and that you will refute every tongue that accuses us.

We proclaim your word over our nation and claim your promises for this time.
